The genuine LG Velvet is finally on sale, officially ending the LG smartphone era

South Korean smartphone maker LG has struggled to compete in the smartphone market in recent years. After consecutive quarters of losses, the company finally had to withdraw from the Chinese smartphone market. However, the damage is not only in China, but also continues in the company's own home country, South Korea, where giants like Samsung and Apple dominate. Finally, in April 2021, LG had to withdraw from the global smartphone market, but some of LG's inventory models are still being sold in the market.

Recent reports revealed that LG's last smartphone models, the LG Velvet, have been removed from the retail website of AT&T, (one of the US carriers). This means that the era of LG-branded smartphones is officially over. LG claims that in today's fiercely competitive market, the company's smartphone division is too slow. As a result, the company has no choice but to exit the market. Going forward, LG will focus its resources on developing other emerging growth areas. Some of these areas include electric vehicle parts, IoT devices, and smart home products.

After announcing the withdrawal, the remaining LG smartphones on the market will continue to be sold. However, the company will not carry out production of any new smartphone models. This time, the US carrier AT&T has officially removed LG smartphones from its website, which means that LG smartphones are officially "dead".

For those of you who don't know, in 1995, LG established a mobile phone research and development department. The division peaked in 2013. At the time, LG was the third largest smartphone maker in the world, behind Samsung and Apple. But later, software and hardware errors on LG's flagship products along with slow system software updates made the brand gradually lose popularity among consumers.
